Research interests: I use the information contained in the molecule of DNA in an inter-disciplinary and creative context to investigate problems related to the floras from Macaronesia and other insular enclaves, and to integrate our results in multi-disciplinary approaches to biodiversity management and conservation.

Research interests: Carlos´research is focused on the microevolutionary processes and mechanisms that shape molecular and phenotypic variation in plant species. He is especially interested in oceanic islands, in which some evolutionary processes are more evident and easier to address than in mainland areas. His most recent research deals with Olea (Oleaceae) and Prunus (Rosaceae) in the Canary Islands, and Dubautia (Asteraceae) in the Hawaiian Islands.
